LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Enrollment at Arkansas universities is up 2.1 percent over last year, with growth at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville leading the way.
A report issued Tuesday by the Arkansas Higher Education Department shows the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville up 8.4 percent with 23,299 students.
Among the state's four-year and two-year schools, total enrollment is 176,114, which is 2.1 percent greater than in fall 2010.
Higher Education Department Interim Director Shane Broadway says that enrollment growth indicates more students are staying in school to get their degrees.
Not all universities grew. University of Central Arkansas saw enrollment drop 2.5 percent at University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff dropped 7 percent.
Arkansas State University at Jonesboro grew by 3.8 percent with 13,920 students this fall.
