LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Thanks to rain that fell in the past week, the Arkansas Forestry Commission has lowered its fire danger classification for Arkansas from extreme to high.
However, the agency said Monday that it expects the fire danger will again become extreme as temperatures rise in the time ahead.
The rain and accompanying humidity led the agency to lower the designation.
Burn bans are still prevalent across the state. Of Arkansas' 75 counties, only 18 do not have outdoor burning bans in place.
The National Weather Service says there are slight rain chances this week but that high temperatures will be in the upper 90s in much of the state later in the week.
