LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A former state legislator who ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for Congress and lieutenant governor is backing Republican U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford's re-election bid.
Crawford's campaign on Wednesday announced that Tim Wooldridge will chair a coalition of Democrats supporting the Arkansas congressman's campaign. Crawford is running against Democratic nominee Scott Ellington for the 1st District in east Arkansas.
Wooldridge said in a statement released by the campaign that he was crossing party lines because he believed the freshman congressman was working above partisanship.
Wooldridge ran for the Democratic Party's nomination for the seat two years ago, but lost in the primary runoff to Chad Causey. He also ran unsuccessfully for the party's nomination for lieutenant governor in 2006.
Wooldridge served 16 years in the state House and Senate.
