LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The department of U.S. Housing and Urban Development has announced a nearly $218,000 grant intended to help provide meals and other services to 109 elderly and disabled residents of Little Rock.

The grant announced Tuesday by HUD is part of a program to award eligible owners of private housing developments that receive rental subsidies from HUD to house low-income individuals who require assistance.

The grant in Little Rock goes to Buffington Tower.

The funding is to be used by the property owner to either hire employees or to contract with service coordinators that will provide health and social services to senior citizens and the elderly — as well as meals. The program is intended to help those residents continue living independently.
