HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (AP) — A chemical company in Helena-West Helena is starting a $4 million expansion and plans to add 40 jobs.

The Thursday announcement by Enviro Tech Chemical Services Inc. is welcome in Phillips County, where the May unemployment rate was 10.4 percent, about a third higher than the state jobless rate.

Enviro Tech focuses on water treatment and food safety.

With the additional 40 jobs, the company will employ more than 70 people.

Enviro Tech President and CEO Mike Harvey says the company plans to be in Phillips County for the long term.

The company makes a compound used to prevent disease-causing bacteria on meat and poultry.

Enviro Tech's facility is at the local port and officials worked with the company to ensure it had the infrastructure it needs for the expansion.
