HOPE, Ark. (AP) — Officials say an inmate who died while being held on child rape charges in the Hempstead County Jail was killed by heart disease.

Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton said Wednesday that 57-year-old Roy Hannon Foster of Ozan suffered from hypertensive arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that Foster's Monday death came after he was arrested Dec. 17 for failure to appear to answer three counts of rape of young girl.

Foster collapsed at 12:30 p.m. Monday after taking a shower. A jail guard administered CPR and Foster was pronounced dead at a hospital at 2:20 p.m.
