JESSIEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — An eighth-grader in Jessieville has won a top national writing award and the library of her choice will be awarded a $10,000 grant.

Abbie Beaver is to be honored at a ceremony at Jessieville Middle School on Thursday.

Abbie was one of six national winners in the Letters About Literature program by the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress. She'll also collect a $500 Target gift card. Abbie will read her prize-winning work at the school ceremony.

Abbie's letter was to essayist and fiction writer George Orwell, author of Animal Farm, 1984 and other titles.

The school library will be the recipient of the grant.
