HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) — Officials in Hot Springs say March was a record month for tourism in the Spa City.

The Sentinel-Records reports that April collections of the tourism tax — which reflects money visitors spent in March — was $532,866. The Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission says that's the largest monthly collection ever.

Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison says the previous record was $513,319, collected last summer.

Officials say warm weather drew more visitors to Oaklawn Park, leading to the increase. Tourism officials also cite the Sun Belt Conference basketball championships and the state basketball championships as reasons for the increase.
