CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Federal investigators say a plane that crashed near Conway and killed a Mississippi man apparently lost power.

Authorities say 65-year-old Robert Allen III of Oxford, Miss., died in the Nov. 6 crash just after takeoff from Dennis F. Cantrell Field Airport in Conway.

The National Transportation Safety Board says in a preliminary report this week that Allen was attempting to return to the airport after losing engine power when the Cessna aircraft crashed into trees - then onto the airport property.

The NTSB says Allen was en route to Oxford.

A report on the probable cause of the crash is not expected for several months.
