CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — Congressmen Mike Ross and Tim Griffin are among the featured speakers at a forum that focuses on energy policy and a proposal to increase the state's severance tax on natural gas.

Monday's panel discussion will also feature Conway Mayor Tab Townsell, Faulkner County Judge Preston Scroggin and chamber of commerce leaders from Conway and El Dorado.

The forum comes as the Conway City Council considers a resolution this week opposing the proposed increase on the severance tax.

Former natural gas executive Sheffield Nelson is proposing that the severance tax be raised to 7 percent. Now, wells are taxed at between 1.25 and 5 percent of the value of the gas that's taken from the land.

Ross has announced he won't run for re-election. Griffin faces Democrat Herb Rule in November.
