TUCKERMAN, Ark. (AP) — A prosecutor says a man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the beating death of his stepfather.

Prosecutor Henry Boyce says a jury deliberated less than 20 minutes before convicting Ike Shawndale Nunn of first-degree murder. Jonesboro television station KAIT reports that Nunn was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Police accuse Nunn of using a baseball bat in the fatal beating of his stepfather, 61-year-old Cecil Phillips of Tuckerman.

Phillips' body was found three days after the Oct. 5, 2011, attack when police were called to do a welfare check. Authorities say an autopsy shows that Phillips died of blunt force trauma and had a fractured skull.
