FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — The trial of an Arkansas man charged in the death of a 16-year-old girl he met online has been postponed.

Lloyd Jones' trial has been pushed back to the week of Sept. 17. He was previously scheduled to go on trial in July.

Jones has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the February death of Angela Allen. Authorities say they found her body in a barrel on land owned by one of Jones' relatives.

Neither Jones' attorney nor a local prosecutor immediately returned phone calls seeking comment.

Authorities say Jones told investigators he picked Allen up in February and was making out with her by the Arkansas River — then shoved her into the water after she told him her age.

A preliminary autopsy found she died of strangulation.
