This being Fox, they are probably trying to find a way to make the number higher, because as we all know in the Gospel According To Fox, women should be in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. Just like that clown car Duggar woman.

Twenty percent incidence of rape! Total BS. This figure is based on questionnaires which asked if the women had even consented to sex and later regretted it. That's entirely different from force or threat. It's called buyer's remorse. see: http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/nisvs/

What is called for her is clear thinking and reasoned response, starting with an honest evaluation of several facts: It is a fact that because of the way crime statistics are gathered and reported that we have no real idea how many women, men or children are actually raped or how many are falsely accused. And we have no idea whatsoever about how many genuine crimes go unreported... because they are unreported! The fact is, we do not know these numbers... and at baseline the numbers do not matter. What matters, and what we know for sure, ss that people are being harmed by other people, and that we must come together as a whole community and take actions to stop all abuse. Starting here... starting now... by getting fully informed on the issues and then taking action to cultivate well-being for ALL... Respectfully, there is no other way. Dill, you said "they should revamp the punishments for these sick pervs instead of a slap on the wrist" I couldn't agree more. Signed 1 out of 5

Parentmo not necessarily. You forget that one person can commit multiple acts of rape. Also, those stats haven't changed in over 10 years....it's a low estimate. The point is to get information out there that rape exists and it's a horrible thing to go through, not just a word thrown around loosely.

Sexual assault IS on the rise, that I'll agree with. I do, however, disagree that the number of 1 in 5 is accurate. There are a lot of women that claim sexual assault to get even with men. Sick, but it happens. Sexual assault is a vaguely defined term. If the government wants to decrease the number of assaults, then maybe, just maybe, they should revamp the punishments for these sick pervs instead of a slap on the wrist.

How did they come up with statistics if no one is reporting it? If the stats are true for male or female then somebody sitting in your group is a monster!!!

I have a problem with some of the posts here. I know a few women that has been sexually assaulted and said nothing to police but spoke to me and I took care of the problem. I also know men that has bragged about sexual encounters and only made other men think the woman would do anything. I my self ( and I am male) have been approached and a teen and younger by older women that has forced them selves on me. You may think that a man can not be so to say raped, but a young man even if not wanting sex from a cert woman can get an erection with oral and other advancements. I am not gay by no means, I am married and have 2 daughters that are grown and gone from home, and I would have to say, if anyone did to them as I was done to as a child they would NEVER make it to court.

Once again, the only thing sadder or scarier than the story being reported is the comments from the same three or four people that seem to comment on every news story on this site. Hooray for anonymity and so-called "intelligent" discourse!

Butch54, It has nothing to do with "liberal" or "conservative". Imagine a male being sodomized while drunk and passed out. Would it still be "remorse" in your view...if it was a man in the same vulnerable position? If not then your logic makes itself clear.
