MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) — Two women locked up in the Baxter County Jail have been treated for injuries after drinking bleach.
The sheriff's department said Friday that 26-year-old Haley Marie Sullivan of Salesville and 23-year-old Brandy Mae Qualls of Lone Rock were returned to custody after hospital treatment Thursday evening.
Officials say the bleach was on a cleaning cart that inmates use to clean their housing area. The department says it's unclear why the women drank the bleach. Other inmates alerted jailers when the women became ill.
Both were transferred to a contracted facility of the Arkansas State Hospital for screening and further evaluation.
Qualls was held for failure to appear and Sullivan was held on forgery and theft charges.
