MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) — A teenager and an adult have pleaded not guilty in the theft of five rodeo horses and a trailer from Southern Arkansas University.
Circuit Judge Larry Chandler on Thursday set a $150,000 bond for 40-year-old William Webster Hamilton and released a 17-year-old defendant to his father. The Banner-News reports they are each charged with six counts of felony theft.
Prosecutors in Arkansas and Oklahoma have charged Jaci Rae Jackson in the caper. The horses vanished from the campus in November and four were later found in eastern Oklahoma, malnourished and dehydrated. The fifth horse, named Credit Card, had been killed.
Jackson faces animal cruelty, concealing stolen property and other charges. Prosecutors allege that Hamilton killed the horse found cut to death in Oklahoma.
