FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A second trial has begun for a man accused of killing his ex-mother-in-law.
Opening statements started Monday in the trial of Raymond Douglas.
Douglas is charged with first-degree murder in the 1996 death of Goldie Thornsberry. Her remains were discovered in a Little Rock well in 2000 but weren't identified until 2010.
According to the Northwest Arkansas Times, prosecutor Mark Booher told the jury Thornsberry lived a pretty good life until she met Douglas.
Douglas was married to Thornsberry's daughter, Reta Flowers, who is his co-defendant.
Washington County Circuit Court Judge William Storey declared a mistrial in Douglas' first trial after Flowers said Douglas had been in jail before. Storey said the comment could prejudice the jury.
Douglas' attorney, Ronald Davis, didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
