To grandma goda. I have to say that was very well put. I agree with you on everything. It is because today's sociality is it's own ignorance when it comes to race. I believe and teach my children that we are all equal it does not matter what color our skin is.

It is so sad that our entire nation hasn't reached a intellectual level to accept others. A person's race is hardly a subject to get inflamed about or to use to elevate one's self esteem. I like the fact there were no comments on this article. Maybe people are finally getting the message. Racism and bigotry are sure signs of ignorance. I remember growing up, being slapped for drinking from a "colored" drinking fountain. I was confused then and am still. I can partially contribute it to my father's ignorance, youngest of 16 raised by a share-cropper, he only had a 4th grad education, and my mother was raised to believe every thing he said as gospel. My father explained it to me that life was hard enough, to buck the system. He apologized to me and said that it was necessary to conform. That some people felt the only way to feel good about themselves was to degrade others. As a adult on my own I developed "black" friends. My parents did learn to accept the fact that they were not going away, and learned to love them as much as I did. I can appreciate the struggles they went through (on both sides) My friends were exceptionally emotionally strong. I can't imagine going through some of the things I saw as a child and still see at times. Education isn't just reading and arithmetic it provides the tools one needs to think. I am afraid that until we educate our population, racism is here to stay-- it is a symptom of ignorance.
