9th Annual Kickoff to Men’s Health August 27 in Little Rock

Free prostate screening from 5-8 p.m. at Arkansas Urology’s campus.
LITTLE ROCK, AR (News Release) - Arkansas Urology, St. Vincent and the Arkansas Health Connector will usher in National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month with the ninth annual Kickoff to Men’s Health on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 5-8 p.m. The event will offer men the opportunity to receive a potentially lifesaving preventive screening at Arkansas Urology’s Little Rock campus, located at 1300 Centerview Drive.
Men who have never had a prostate screening can register to receive a free screening* at the event. To schedule a prostate screening appointment, please call 501-219-8900. Those who qualify for the screening include:
  • Men 50 and older
  • Men 40 and older with a family history of prostate cancer
  • Men 40 and older of African-American or Hispanic descent
At last year’s event, a total of 376 men were screened for prostate cancer. Of those, 20 were found to have elevated PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels and/or abnormal physical exams, and 152 others tested positive for BPH (enlarged prostate that causes painful and annoying symptoms). These men have been encouraged to schedule follow-up appointments with their primary-care physicians or urologists.
“Arkansas Urology is dedicated to hosting an annual screening event that will have a positive impact on men’s health outcomes in central Arkansas,” said Dr. Tim Langford, president of Arkansas Urology. “By offering free screenings, we hope to help prevent losing another Arkansan to prostate cancer.”
Kickoff to Men’s Health is presented by Arkansas Urology, St. Vincent and the Arkansas Health Connector. Click here for more information about this year’s screening event.

*Screening results will be mailed to participants.
