HARRISBURG, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a group that wants to stop the agency from removing private duck blinds on public land.

The Jonesboro Sun reports that the commission filed the request this week in Harrisburg to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the St. Francis Lake Association. The commission had planned to remove the blinds by Oct. 15, but a judge issued a stay preventing the agency from doing so.

The agency says removing the duck blinds in northeast Arkansas is needed to protect the public land.

But Bobby Benson, president of the St. Francis Lake Association, says some of the blinds have been around for 60 years or longer and that hunters want them to stay in place.
