The Hoskins family originally planned for the rally at the Capitol to be a prayer vigil, a solemn plea for an arrest in Ernest Hoskins' murder. But after state police arrested Hoskins' boss, Christopher Reynolds, on Saturday, the focus shifted to a vow that the fight has just begun."A lot of times people confuse an arrest with a conviction. That's not the case. This is a long journey they will have to sustain," Benjamin Crump, the family's attorney, said.
According to the state police arrest report, Reynolds "pointed a loaded gun toward Hoskins while trying to un-cock it." Instead, it discharged and killed Hoskins. All of this occurred in front of co-workers at a business meeting at Reynolds' house.
"Why would you point a loaded gun at a man with no intentions of using?" said Nikki Hoskins, Ernest's wife.
Tomorrow (November 27) Nikki and Ernest Hoskins would have celebrated four months as a married couple. She never expected to be a widow this early.
"You have no idea how it feels to have a baby daughter ask you everyday when her dad is coming home from home," Hoskins said.
It will be hard for the family to re-live the turmoil in court, but their attorney said they are committed for the sake of justice.
"What they want most is Ernest back. They are still fighting with the notion that's not going to happen so they're trying to do what they can," Crump said.
