Alzhiemer’s patient drowns in Lake Ouachita

Officials from the Garland County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accidental drowning in Lake Ouachita Monday morning.
GARLAND COUNTY, AR – Officials from the Garland County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accidental drowning in Lake Ouachita Monday morning.

According to reports, police received a call about a drowning at the house boat docks near Brady Mountain Resort on Lake Ouachita. When they arrived, witnesses told police that 91-year-old Berghea Gartrell of Mabelvale had presumably walked off the dock at some point during the night, and was found floating in one of the boat slips the following morning. Gartrell, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, was last seen by her son around 2:00 am Monday morning.

Police say there were no signs of trauma, and no foul play is suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
