PLAINVIEW, AR – Police are investigating a complaint of animal abuse in Yell County.

Plainview Police received a phone call Tuesday of numerous unattended dogs at a home. When officers arrived, they found several dogs running loose in the yard, while others were in pens or tied up on leashes. Police say there were also bodies of other animals that had recently died, as well as dog skeletons on the property.

The owner told police that she was with her husband at a hospital in Ft. Smith and that her daughter and a friend were taking care of the animals.

Police noted that someone did arrive to water the dogs and clean up after officers arrived.

Police say the owners have given away all but six of the dogs. Investigators have given the case to the prosecutor’s office to determine if there will be any charges.

I make sure my animals are taken care of if i go out of town and always a phone call to check up on them. They are my responsibility and if i got to where i couldn,t take care of them i would give them up. This was not just a OOPS! I forgot to feed my dogs thing.

When I leave my grandson I am still responsible to see that he taken care of no matter what the situation. So the people that own the animals are NOT free of all the responsibility for this either. If this bothers us so much then we too should do something. Money and volunteer work can change things like this. Free spaying and neutering would help too.

Stories like this make me SICK!!! People that have animals and don’t take care of them and they end up dead or abused should go to jail. No ifs and buts about it. Ten years on each count of cruelty should wake people up and think twice about what they’re doing. Studies have shown animal abuse leads to child abuse etc. I would like to think we are companionate people. That we will not tolerate this abusive, starvation and cruelty situations these animals are living in. If we see a child living like this would we not make that call and report it. We who are animal lovers should not tolerate this and stand up and speak out. Make that call to PLAINVIEW, AR and the prosecutor’s of this case. And yes we should support our local Animal Shelters and remember they don’t get bail outs from the government. Only we the people can stop this by reporting and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. One more thing the police said someone arrived to give the dogs water, WTH. Did the police bother to ask them was this the first time they came by? What about food and why all the dead animals in the yard? I can understand the owner being away because her husband was in the hospital, but if you ask your daughter and a friend to take care of your pets and they don’t, send those people to jail for a long time.

Out of 31 horses in a horse rescue,20 of them came from abusive and starvation situations.Out of those 20 horses would you care to guess how many people have been prosecuted?Several have been charged, some have admitted guilt, others have denied that they have done anything wrong. In the end not one person has been fined, the rescue that operates on donations has had to foot the entire bill. Several lawyers have been enriched by this process as continue to find loopholds to help these people avoid the law.It is time for the prosecutors and judges to uphold the law as they have taken an oath to do.In the meantime we are still being called on to support these abuser's habits.

I agree that something needs to be done about our animal cruelty situation. But how many people out there actually donate and help support our Animal Shelters? Most of the ones in this state are massively under-staffed and under-funded. So what do you do with the innocent animals? These people will likely get away with a slap on the wrist. Especially in the case of the pit-bull. We as citizens that do care will have to support our local Animal Shelters ourselves if we want to actually get something done about things like this.

To Tired: While you are waiting for more information, the animals are dieing,do you need to be slapped in the face with a dead dog carcass to get the point. It has taken 10 years of hard work to get the animal cruelity law on the books and it was done with the intention of giving animals a chance against people that abuse them. Lets support the law unless you are for animal cruelity.
