JACKSONVILLE, AR – The hot dry weather and high fire danger is claiming another major central Arkansas fireworks display. Jacksonville Mayor Gary Fletcher this morning issued this statement:
After reevaluating all elements involved in creating a safe fireworks display, with the severe drought conditions that are worsening daily, it has been determined that the best decision at this time is to cancel the fireworks portion of the Patriotic Spectacular. The rest of the show will continue as scheduled, including a performance by the Marshall Tucker Band. As disappointing as this is, there cannot and will not be any discharge of fireworks at this time. We hope to be able to reschedule the fireworks when conditions become more favorable. Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you at Jacksonville High School Sunday night.
