LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments in a case in which a jury ordered a nursing home to pay more than $5 million following the death of a woman who attorneys say didn't receive proper care.

Lawyers are slated to lay out their arguments in front of the state's highest court Thursday in the case stemming from Minnie Valentine's 2005 death.

Valentine had a stroke in 2004 and wound up at a nursing home where attorneys say she suffered "significant injuries." Brenda Williams, who represents Valentine's estate, sued and a jury found in her favor.

Attorneys for the nursing home and another company asked for a new trial, but a lower court rejected their request. Now, they're asking the Supreme Court to grant a new trial.

All I saw when my x husband was one were workers outside smoking, rude doctors and people parked in hallways just alone and sitting. My x was treated like a child so I asked him to come to my house. I am so thankful I did. Just because people divorce should not mean people should stop caring! Our adult sons were pleased. Currant husband was so helpful. People need to care about others more!

Nursing homes need to be evaluated more often and the state should not notify them when they are to be evaluated. Any one with a loved one in any nursing home should check on them and do not go at the same time every time they go. This way you will know what is going on and the staff does not know when to expect you.
