JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 120 days in jail after pleading guilty to aggravated animal cruelty.
Cameron Wright was accused of dragging a 5-month-old pit bull terrier behind his vehicle in July 2011. The dog was euthanized a day later.
Investigators say Wright told police he was trying to get rid of the dog because he and his girlfriend were earlier cited when the puppy got loose and was run over by a car.
The Jonesboro Sun reports that Wright also received three years of probation and was ordered to take a class on how to properly treat animals. Circuit Court Judge Victor Hill on Monday also ordered Wright to pay $138 in restitution to Jonesboro Animal Control for veterinary expenses and $756 in court costs.
