JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — One of two police officers who were placed on paid administrative leave is back at work weeks after a young man was fatally shot in the head while his hands were cuffed behind him in an Arkansas patrol car.

Jonesboro Police Chief Michael Yates confirmed Monday that Officer Keith Baggett returned to work after an internal investigation cleared him of wrongdoing in the shooting death of 21-year-old Chavis Carter.

Baggett stopped a truck in which Carter was a passenger after someone reported a suspicious vehicle on July 28. Another officer, Ron Marsh, responded to the scene and patted Carter down twice but didn't find a gun before the shooting.

An autopsy report ruled Carter's death a suicide.

Yates didn't respond to an email about whether Marsh remains on paid leave.
