LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas election officials say a proposed casino legalization measure is short on signatures needed to qualify for the November ballot.
Secretary of State spokesman Alex Reed said Monday that officials notified professional poker player Nancy Todd she'll have 30 additional days to circulate petitions for the proposed constitutional amendment. Todd's proposal would give her exclusive rights to operate casinos in four counties.
Reed says officials are still going through the signatures from registered voters to see how many were valid, but he says it wasn't enough to qualify for the ballot.
Todd said she expected the signature count might be short, so the petition circulation never stopped. She doesn't know how many more signatures are needed, but Todd said she's not discouraged will continue efforts to get the proposal qualified.
