worse - they come from a test tube. Firms like RiceTec and Monsanto have so hybridized and modified our seed stock that what farmers grow isn't fertile - they have to buy new seed every year. They can't retain some of this year's crop to grow next year because what grows this year won't produce fertile seed; they have to buy more lab-modified seed next year. We need to get back to the days of heirloom veggies and growing our own gardens (yes, I have a small one - and yes, it's a lot of work)

I do love our farmers and ranchers. Without them, there would be no grocery stores, and I'd have to grow, gather, and hunt my own food. I could do so if it came to that; but I'd just as soon go to the store. BUT; what's up with genetically-modified and hybrid rice? What was wrong with the plain ol' rice seed that has been around since God put it here? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
