"The immediate reaction is for his family."  Governor Mike Beebe says that includes the family of his killer.

"Gwatney would have been the very kind of person to try and help him if he'd asked for help."

Democratic staffers were seen leaving party offices around lunch. Joined by first lady Ginger, Governor Beebe talked about his longtime friend.  "He had a big heart. I called him a Kennedy Democrat. Born rich, but cared about everybody, whether rich or poor."

That may be one reason Timothy Johnson was let inside party headquarters Wednesday. A door buzzer provides security. Understandably now, there's talk if stronger security is needed.

"While we can have security and while we need to take reasonable precaution, this is still a free society and we want it to be a free society."

One in which the governor says if Gwatney was here, he would say 'carry on.'

"Thanks for the respect, take care of my wife and my children, my mom, my dad and my brother and all my family members. Do what you can to watch out for them. And go to work."
