BENTON, AR -- A Tuesday just like eleven years ago.

"My husband said turn on the TV because something terrible has just happened," Joy Ballard said.

A day we won't ever forget.

"I actually saw the filming of the aircraft when it hit the tower. We did a lot of praying for the people responding up there," Charles Carty.

Although that happened thousands of miles away to thousands of people we didn't even know, we still felt it.

"When I got to work all I wanted to do was listen to the radio and it was like everyone else in our town," Lt. Kevin Russell of the Benton Police Department said.

Saline County residents took a minute out of their lunch break to salute not only the flag, but also the victims and the thousands of first responders who went to their aid.

"Departments all over the country re-evaluated their procedures and made changes as necessary to be a better service to people," Carty said.

And while our way of life changed on this day eleven years ago, Arkansans believe that one day taught us -- a lesson too hard to forget.

"It's branded into my brain, just the whole scene and everything that happened in the aftermath. It was a terrible, terrible day," Ballard said.
