LITTLE ROCK, AR -- M
any central Arkansans stocked up on Twinkies and Ding Dongs when the word spread that Hostess stores are closing nationwide.FOX16 went to a Hostess outlet store in southwest Little Rock and saw empty shelves and crates.
Store clerks said Twinkies were the first to disappear from the shelves. But a lot of other sweet treats and Wonder bread left shortly afterward.
It all stems from the company and the workers' failure to agree on wages and benefits.
The company warned the business would shut down immediately if the two sides didn't reach a deal.
"My daughter's store in Pine Bluff closed Wednesday so she didn't have anything to get together so I'm getting what I can for her," said Madeline Stinnett.
The Wall Street Journal reported the company is over $860 million in debt, despite earning $2.5 billion last year.
