LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Many central Arkansans stocked up on Twinkies and Ding Dongs when the word spread that Hostess stores are closing nationwide.

FOX16 went to a Hostess outlet store in southwest Little Rock and saw empty shelves and crates.

Store clerks said Twinkies were the first to disappear from the shelves.  But a lot of other sweet treats and Wonder bread left shortly afterward.

It all stems from the company and the workers' failure to agree on wages and benefits.

The company warned the business would shut down immediately if the two sides didn't reach a deal.

"My daughter's store in Pine Bluff closed Wednesday so she didn't have anything to get together so I'm getting what I can for her," said Madeline Stinnett.

The Wall Street Journal reported the company is over $860 million in debt, despite earning $2.5 billion last year.

I hate seeing that many people out of work. As for the Unions being the cause of this it works both ways, the big wigs at Hostess should be able to live on $250,000 a year. That is where some of the blame should be, they forget who produces the products that benefits their expensive lifestyle and wasteful spending on impractical material objects. I've never cared for a lot of Hostess products, why would anyone eat something with a shelf life of 5 years.

Yep, a lot of things wrong with local media. I watch the first few minutes to get the headlines, sometimes, and tune in when severe weather is around. Other than that, I rely on the 'net, FNC, and the Weather Channel. rodie; Doubt too many here would like it up there. Too much snow, too cold, and they look down on us for various reasons. Take IL for instance. Dead people vote, politicians "buy" their offices, gun laws are inane, and they talk funny. Instead of ya'll, they say yous ( pronounced the same as use ). And the crooked unions and their cronies in politics control most of the jobs. That's why this "yankee" lives here. Except for being born in KS, spending 5 years in IL, and 3 in England; I've lived the other 52 years in the South or out West. And my experience with unions here, when Regal closed, I learned they were as crooked as the ones up North. Or was it just our union officers at Regal that were crooks? Yep rodie; first it was "change", and now it is "forward". The only change I saw was more people lost their jobs and homes. Can't wait to see what forward will do for us!

Yes ArkansasYankee I agree with you, our local FOX 16 is and has always gone the way of the liberal media. That’s way I don’t and I mean I don’t watch them or any other local media. I only just check out local weather and some local news and only online. It’s from there grammar to not telling the whole story and its very very sad. I just want the news reported in a non bias way just the facts and let me make up my own mind. But NO they can’t even do that. And yes FNC did report it was the UNIONS, they said the word UNIONS.

raerae is correct. I watched the first few minutes of the news less than an hour ago; and there was no mention of the unions bringing the company down. Yet I read an article on the 'net today saying the company was closing due to not being able to settle with the union. Greed ( by the union ) reared it's ugly head, and it got chopped off! It appears the local Fox news outlet is just like most of our liberal media today; we didn't get the whole story. I'll bet FNC will tell the whole story.

Did FOX16 read any of the news today. Is there a problem with this news station with saying the UNIONS were the problem? The UNIONS are PART of this story and they said nothing about them. The UNIONS said NO to the deal the company offered them, that's the story and that's the cause of almost 20,000 people losing their job. Company's can't keep paying over the top wages and the company stay in business.
