Arkansas hiring John L. Smith as interim coach

John L. Smith knows the Arkansas football program well and has a vested interest in its continued success. So a chance to help clean up the mess made by coach Bobby Petrino was too good to pass up.

Well I don't do this often but i have to retract the LOL earlier posted.I got in touch with an old and dear friend that schooled and was in sports there. They kind of like the idea. I'll ride with them and see what happens. Hoping for the best.

Dilli- Smith was only going to make 150K/yr. at Weber and really took the job because it was his old almamater. This is 850K for 10 months and at age 63 years old, that gets him closer to retirement. My gut tells me Long will go for a big gun at the end of the season but he will keep the assistants and players together and bottom line, we have a great team coming back.

Yay...They should just offer him the full time head coach position, if he wants it...I heard they were thinking about offering Phil fulmer the job, even thought of that one makes me nauseous.

this is actually very smart. If you make Taver head coach, someone needs to take his spot - etc., etc. This brings in someone familiar with the program, respected by both players and coaches, and leaves all the other coaches in place. If this was December of January, maybe not the best choice; but he has a proven winning record, is familiar with the program, and known and respected by the staff and the players. AND it eliminates the domino-effect of shuffling coaches or bringing in someone with a different philosophy or ideology. Reduces the turmoil and gets the team focused on performance.

So, Smith said to hell with Weber State to come here for just one year? Hmmmmmmmmm. If they were just going to get a one year man, I think Taver could have done the job. John L. Smith has bounced around a whole lot lately. Either way, I will support our Hogs 100% and I'm looking forward to a great season.
