BROKEN BOW, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say an Arkansas man was killed when a vehicle ran over him as he was lying on a highway in far southeastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 22-year-old Mena, Ark., resident Zachary Smith suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:10 a.m. accident on Sunday. It happened on U.S. 59/U.S. 70 about 3 miles south of Broken Bow in McCurtain County.

Troopers say a car was headed north in the outside lane of the highway when it struck Smith, who was lying in the center of the lane.

Neither the driver of the car nor a passenger were hurt in the accident.
