LITTLE ROCK, AR - More than one million dollars will help employment, training and support services for Arkansas Veterans.

The state was one of 11 recipients of the Veterans' Workforce Investment Program grant.

The money will assist 450 veterans over a three-year period and train 360 for jobs in health care and energy efficiency.

Each veteran who qualifies for the program can get up to one thousand dollars to offset training costs and another 500 for supportive services like child care and transportation.

Veterans who meet one of the following criteria may qualify for the program:

  • Veterans with service-connected disabilities.
  • Those who have significant barriers to employment such as a lack of education and work experience.
  • Veterans who served on active duty during a war, campaign or expedition.
  • Veterans who apply within 48 months of discharge from the military.

Just for you Dude. "Pitiful is the Nation without heroes. Shameful is the one that, having them, forgets".

It's called Freedom Dude. Without Veterans, we would not be a free people. If not for the vets of WW II, we might be in work camps; camps run by the Krauts and Nips; and when you and I were useless to them, we'd be taken to a large hole full of dead bodies, and we would join them. You should be grateful for the men and women that have died for our counrty and our freedom. You don't even like yourself, do you?

Guess I didn't click on Post Your Comment. And a tip of the hat to you itsjustme! I've tried to talk Dude into going to one of the local VA hospitals, or the American Legion or VFW; and voicing his opinions; he has yet to take me up on that offer. Butch and itsjustme are American hero's; in my eyes and the eyes of millions of Americans. What's your big accomplishment in life Dude? Being rude, disssing people you know nothing about, or nothing about what they did for you, and hating cops? Doesn't sound like you are storing treasures up in Heaven very well Dude!

DudeIII, it is obvious you never served in the military or your views would be a tad different. And if you think vets just sit around the house, not working, drawing a fat ass govt. check, so around and ask a vet about their income. Boy, I volunteered 3 decades of my life to the military not because I wanted to, but I felt I was obligated to give something back to the best damn country in the world for giving me the rights I do have. I was very fortunate to have received damn good training and a damn good bit of education in the military that allowed me to not only work top security for some of the finest figures in America, but it also gave me the right and ability to have my own business doing so. You say these vets need to get off of their butts and get a job, why dont you try to become a man and walk a mile, hell walk a tenth of a mile, in a true man's shoes. You'd fold like a 3 egg pudding. People like you make me want to vomit, you piece of trash.

If you don't think the health and welfare of the people that fought for your rights and freedom are worth it maybe it's time to find a new country. I would like to thank the Government for doing this for the brave boys and girls That laid it all on the line for us. If we are ever invaded we Veterans will be easy to spot. We will be the ones fighting to get to the arms and action. Whether we run, walk, crawl, use walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, or beg help getting our hospital beds rolled to it. Some things you believe in are just worth dieing for. If not life is meaningless. I don't hold ill will against people that their religion doesn't allow their members to participate in acts of war or aggression. As a true American will also fight for your freedom of religion. AMERICA. LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.
