PARAGOULD, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State Police say two troopers who fatally shot a man following a 12-hour standoff have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
State Police spokesman Bill Sadler told KAIT-TV the troopers returned to duty this week after 29-year-old Billy Hyde was killed early Saturday.
Authorities say the Paragould man fled from a trooper on Friday after being spotted in a vehicle police suspected may have been used in a bank robbery. Officials say Hyde fled to his wife's home and refused to surrender.
Early Saturday, he escaped from the home and ran into a heavily wooded area. A state police helicopter guided officers to the location, where they say Hyde rose and fired at the troopers.
The officers, whose names haven't been released, returned fire and killed him.
