Arkansas unemployment rate falls to 7.2 percent

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas unemployment rate for June fell to 7.2 percent, a decline of 0.1 percent from May.

The figure announced Friday by the state Department of Workforce Services is down almost a full percentage point from 8.1 percent unemployment in June of last year.

The national unemployment rate for June held steady at 8.2 percent, the same as in May. A year ago the national unemployment rate was 9.1 percent.

The department says job gains in June were mainly seasonal position in arts, entertainment and recreation. The department says the manufacturing and construction sectors each lost 500 jobs. Government jobs posted mainly seasonal losses of 5,700 positions in June.
