Armorel, Yellville-Summit off Ark. distress list

Districts in Armorel and Yellville-Summit have improved their financial performance well enough to leave Arkansas' list of fiscally distressed school systems.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Districts in Armorel and Yellville-Summit have improved their financial performance well enough to leave Arkansas' list of fiscally distressed school systems.

The Board of Education placed the districts on the list over the past two years. Armorel superintendent on Monday thanked the state for helping it through its recent troubles. Yellville-Summit left the list after addressing an overstaffing problem.

School districts classified as fiscally distressed face consolidation or annexation if they do not correct problems within two years.

The Hermitage and Cutter Morning Star districts are to be considered for inclusion next month.

Recent additions to the list include Dermott, Earle, Forrest City, Helena-West Helena, North Little Rock, Pulaski County Special, Strong-Huttig and West Side.
