Banks evacuated after suspicious powder found

The FBI is investigating the discovery of a white powdery substance at a bank in Siloam Springs.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) — The FBI is investigating the discovery of a white powdery substance at a bank in Siloam Springs.

Authorities reported a similar incident at a bank in Springdale Tuesday morning.

The Arvest Bank in Siloam Springs was evacuated about 9 a.m. after a letter containing the suspicious substance was found. Brenda Balk with the Siloam Springs Police Department says the bank was closed until hazardous materials crews could examine the powder. Balk says no injuries were reported.

FBI spokesman Steven Frazier says the agency is investigating, but he had no additional details about it or what happened in Springdale.

There, firefighters were called when a white powdery substance fell out of a roll of coins brought in by a customer at Bank of America.

Officials reported no injuries.
