LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The term emergency waiting room is so yesterday! Baptist Health officials unveiled the hospital's emergency welcome center. It's more spacious than the previous one.

"Many patients bring 3 family members with them. We need a place for them. We need a comfortable place for them," said Doug Weeks, the hospital's senior vice president.

After talking to nurses in a private room, the medical professional relays that information to doctors. The mad dash begins to bring the patient relief.

"If the patient presents the emergency department with a painful condition, we address that as quickly and as appropriately as possible," said Dr. Wendell Pahls, the hospital's medical director.

Patients go to one of the nine patient care rooms and instead of that normal shower curtain for privacy, each room has a door attached to it.

The trauma rooms are bigger, too.

"Sometimes we had to see patients out in the hallways in the hall beds when we were strapped for beds," said Dr. Pahls.

While no one desires to go to the emergency room, doctors hope the ones they serve get the quick, effective care in their most desperate hour.

"In many hospitals, the emergency department is looked at almost as an afterthought, something that's the backdoor of the hospital. This clearly communicates to the patients coming in that this is the front door. This is the face of Baptist Health," said Pahls.

What good is a bigger better ER if you don't have CAPABLE AND QUALIFIED MEDICAL PERSONNEL working in it?

Privacy maybe...but patient care sucks! I went to thier NEW ER 2 weeks ago with chest pain set out in the waiting room for 6 hours with chest pain...and they could careless! I was furious wanted so bad to tell them how I felt but did not have it in me at that point! If you are having chest pains you should be taken back right then...nothing to play with! And any other serious problems for that matter! They are too worried about what the place looks like then to care for the patients! And yes there were still people in the hallway beds! And whats even worse as I was being checked in the person left her desk left her computer up and I read everyone that was in the ER and what they were there for!! DOB's everything!!! Can we say HIPPA vilation!

Insurance is the key thing at Baptist, if no insurance-No Care. That is why all of the Mexicans and indogent go to UAMS, at least it gives the Med Students something to practice on, and honestly - they pay more attention to detail than a private practice MD anyway.

The EMT, my daughter and I all told the ER crew that I had had BLACK TAR diahrea(sp?) all day the day before and I was there because I got up at 2 a.m. and couldn't breathe....THEY KICKED ME OUT WITH "We can't find anything wrong with you...you come in here sick and you are talking on the phone." I said "I won't be able to walk to the door"...they said "We will put you in a wheel chair." WELL, when my son and grandson were trying to get me to my front door I started throwing up from both ends. Called another ambulance and went the Heart Hospital..THE NEXT DAY I WAS GIVEN 6 UNITS OF BLOOD AND HAD MULTIPLE BLOOD CLOTS IN MY LUNGS. They aren't that welcoming!...I still feel like suing them. I had a quarter size hole in my stomach.
