MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) — Authorities in Baxter County are looking for an impostor who posed as a police officer and used a flashing blue light to stop a female motorist.

The Baxter County sheriff and Mountain Home police chief issued a joint statement on Thursday to warn motorists about the incident.

The woman was pulled over Sunday evening in Mountain Home by a man in an unmarked car. The man wore a sidearm but didn't display a badge. He ultimately let the woman go.

Officials say stops by unmarked vehicles are very rare and that legitimate law officers will display a badge.

The release recommends that anyone with doubt when they're being pulled over should turn on their flashers and drive to a safe place, such as an open store or a police station.
