LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Gov. Mike Beebe says emergency crews around the state remain on standby to help with any damage as Isaac swirls over Arkansas.
As of mid-afternoon, Isaac's center still had not crossed into Arkansas.
The governor said his greatest concern is flooding that the storm is expected to bring.
Meteorologist John Robinson of the National Weather Service in North Little Rock says he expects the rain to intensify overnight, making for treacherous conditions in places after dark.
Robinson said tropical systems tend to contract after dark and the rain increases in intensity. The storm is forecast to move toward western Arkansas in the hours ahead.
Beebe says he's also concerned about possible damage to crops in eastern Arkansas, where some of the heaviest rain has fallen.
