LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Mike Beebe told reporters Tuesday he would not support a proposed initiated act to legalize medical marijuana in Arkansas if it makes the November ballot.

The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act requires valid signatures from 62,507 registered voters.

Beebe told reporters he does not expect to speak out against the ballot initiative.

"I worry about whether or not it would be abused," Beebe says.

The Secretary of State's office is currently reviewing the signatures that were handed in on July 5th. It expects to complete the process within 30 days of the July 6th signature deadline.

Mr. Beebe do you really think by you not passing the medical marijuana bill that it will keep americans from smoking it??Absurd! All your allowing is its sale illegally by increasing demand to drug dealers to produce more instead of taking it out of their hands and using it against the hard core dealers! They could probably balance the US budget! It would be less work for our police which half the times they will dump out on the ground so they dont have to waste their precious time stopping a weed smoker when they could be out stopping SERIOUS CRIMINALS!!??They will never be able to stop people from smoking it -so why do they waste their time and our tax dollars on it?I think anyone over the age of 21 is an adult and will make their own choices weither Beebe likes it or not!I live in chronic pain everyday of my life & must take morphineand oxycodne all day long!It makes me very sick but I am not allowed to have another choice!Guess what?I promise I will to keep from having a pain pump inserted in me!Put that in your beer and drink it!!Gods helper

Beebe is worried it will be abused. Lets see here, alcohol is abused, and its legal, cigarettes and tobacco products are abused, and they're legal. Whats the difference? The difference is if a politician says they are for the legalization of marijuana, they are to afraid they will be labelled a pothead or hippie. Beebe does not have a set of balls of his own, therefore he has to ride with the flow. I'll be so glad when this taxpayer funded vacation taking, spineless buzzard is gone.

I think it should be legal for use in the home. Not just medical. There should be no restrictions on what someone does in the home that doesn't affect someone else. The only problem with that is we have no way of judging a level of being impaired like we do with alcohol. Get that in place so we can still get the abusers, and the good guys can stay home and smoke. I am 60 years old. I have never smoked it, probably never will. But it should be a choice.

I look at it like this unless our legislators are licensed physicians and know a person well enough on an individual level they really aren't in the position to have the final say as to what my body will tolerate or consider as an acceptable option. After all we are each equally and individually different in how we react to the products we consume. We might as well have a law that requires ever citizen in the U.S. eat peanuts or peanut by-products everyday. What right for some people may be what kills others. Just because some people may not approve of cannabis doesn't mean it's the wrong choice for everybody, we know from history that just because the government approves alcohol, over the counter medications and prescription drugs they aren't the right choice of products for a lot of people to consume.

Really Mike? You have a problem with medical marijuana, but you don’t have a problem with you and all your (cousins/friends) drinking and driving. I can’t wait until 2014 because you haven’t done anything for the citizens but lied and covered up all the wrongdoing for your “Good Ole Boys.” Everyone know you like to get S*&* faced every chance you get, so GTFOH with this propaganda.

anyone in their right might would not be opposed to MEDICAL marijuana. I guess Beebe likes to see people with cancer and other ailments in pain and suffering from malnutrition b/c they can't hold any food down or they don't have an appetite. All for special interest purposes and ignorance! Plain ignorance!

Ask any State Trooper or Law Enforcement Officer and they will tell you they would rather pull over a guy that has been smoking weed any day before chasing down a drunk driver that wants to fight you. El Beebe's main focus is protecting his illegal Mexicans and wasting 8 million dollars of Arkansas Tax Payor's money up at UAMS, "Where Mexicans, not Medicine, Lives".

Governor Mike, you are correct on this one. Most of the time I do not agree with you. While I have your staffs attention, you need to get your private police "State Police" in order.
