Benton man arrested for copper thefts

BENTON, AR - Sheriff's deputies arrested a man they believe has been stealing copper from air conditioners and selling it as scrap.

Monday, deputies pulled over a truck believed to be involved with the theft of two air conditioning units behind the Salem Harvest Foods shopping center on October 17. They say the driver, 37-year-old Randall J. Brown the second, had warrants and that they saw material from air conditioning units in the bed of the truck.

Detectives say that the "Leads On Line" database showed that Brown had been selling air conditioning parts as scrap.

Brown has been charged with theft and more charges are expected.

Authorities believe there are more people involved in area copper thefts and urge residents to be watchful for suspcious activity.

Well Brite I as well as my family agree this is a shame. But i want you to know this is my brother. And fyi no one in my family condones or agrees with what was done. you can call him names or anything else you want to but just so you know DO NOT BRING MY MOTHER OR MY FATHER INTO THIS. He wasnt raised this way. And just so you know before you go blowing smoke my so called momma dont cut his hair.Believe it or not a barber does. So say what you have to abt him i suppose but leave my parents completely out of this.

He'll spend 10 years behind bars because he stole 2 air conditioners that would give him about $5 worth of copper. Copper thieves are absolute morons.

there are new laws requiring your dl number etc for each transaction at scrap yards... and yes these people are scum, stealing plumbing form peoples homes, the copper gutters off of our church, ac units at other churches, things that cost the victim much much more than the value of what was stolen..

seeing how copper is so valuable that people are having their property destroyed so these worthless thieves can get their copper, why isn't it a law that you have to fill out some kind of legal paper work, maybe even a contractor's license in order to scrap certain amounts of copper? Anyway, if there is already a law like that, great but if not then...DUH wtf?
