BENTON, AR –- A Benton Police officer is credited for saving an 88-year-old woman from her burning home.

Officer Christopher Goss rescued bedridden Jessie Flowers December 26 from the house on Derby Drive.

"The house was full of smoke. There were flames in the kitchen. I didn't know how much time I had to get her or get her out of there. My concern was to get her out as soon as possible," said Goss.

An apartment is attached to the home, which is were Goss and other crews found Flowers and her daughter, Jan.

"They said you have to go out. And I said momma is right here. There was still no smoke in the apartment because it was at the far end. And they came in, lifted her up and they carried her out," said jan Adams-Byers.

The colon cancer survivor made it out ok.

"I hate that her house burned up. But that can be replaced. She can't," said Goss.

Family members say they are not sure if they will rebuild. Officer Goss says the incident reminds him of why he loves his job.

"To help get somebody out, it's a very good feeling to know at the end of the day, you are saving a life," said Goss.

Feel good stories make me....well, feel good! Although they still start my water works. So happy that she, her family, and Officer Goss are safe!

Agree with all of you. To serve and protect. This man is a fine example of what police officers are supposed to do, and what many would do in a situation like this. The liberal run media is quick to jump on a story about a bad cop; it's nice to see a change in the weather! Way to go Officer Goss!

Thank God he had the courage to go in after her. My hats off to him for doing this. Pray that the woman is doing fine as well as the officer.
