Body of missing woman found in Crawford County

Fort Smith police have found the body of a missing 24-year-old woman in Crawford County and her husband is charged with first-degree murder in her slaying.

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — Fort Smith police have found the body of a missing 24-year-old woman in Crawford County and her husband is charged with first-degree murder in her slaying.

Police on Tuesday found the body of Cassie Leigh Cotta in a rural part of the county off Gun Club Road.

Fort Smith police say investigators learned where Cotta's body might be by interviewing neighbors, friends and Cotta's husband, Brent Cotta.

Investigators say they seized evidence from an SUV and the Cottas' home.

Cassie Cotta vanished after she left for a party in Alma on Friday. Her body was found at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Brent Cotta is being held without bond in the Sebastian County Jail. It wasn't clear whether he had an attorney.
