HEBER SPRINGS, AR - Shortly before noon Monday, the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sandy Beach area of Greer’s Ferry Lake to the report of a possible drowning.

Sheriff Marty Moss says 13-year-old Robert Daniel Woods was found in 8 feet of water. He was taken to the hospital but could not be revived.

Sheriff Moss says it appears that the boy had gone to the beach alone to swim after football practice.

Mr Tom, you're so right there. One of the first things my parents taught me about swimming was that if you feel distressed, float on your back! Maybe it's easier said than done in a panic situation but if that's drilled into your head then it would come as second nature.

Article didnt say too much but it is SO IMPORTANT to teach kids to swim well at a young age! I have taught dozens of childen to swim and will continue to do so at no charge. I dont go to lake more than 2 or 3 times a year but usually am in the water teaching kids how to swim and how to float on their backs etc. Could save their lives some day.
