MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Interstate 5 over the Skagit River collapsed Thursday near Seattle Washington, sending vehicles and people into the water below, according to the Washington State Patrol said.
There was no immediate word on injuries.
Both the northbround and southbound lanes of the northern section of the bridge collapsed, said Gina Cole of the Skagit Valley Herald.
This section of I-5 runs between the Washington cities of Burlington and Mount Vernon.
Rescue boats are pulling people from the tops of their submerged cars.
