BRYANT, AR - "Let the games begin," writes an anonymous user called The Shadow on
mysaline.com. The person is referring to a lawsuit targeting the user as well as at least six other anonymous users on the website for publishing "false and defamatory" remarks against Bryant council members Adrian Henley, Brenda Miller and Danny Steele.
"There's just no way for me to track everything that they're talking about," said mysaline.com creator and founder Shelli Russell.
An evidence preservation notice served Russell asks for certain users content to be archived as evidence as well as their IP addresses to be tracked so the plaintiffs can identify exactly who they are suing.
"They're all anonymous," said Russell.
Neither the council members nor their attorney will talk on camera until the screen names are identified, but over the phone the plaintiffs' attorney told Fox16 she believes she can prove malicious intent through user comments.
"If you asked Mark Zuckerberg could he verify everything that's said on Facebook the answer would be a flat no and he's got a large staff," said Russell.
But as far as this one-woman operation is concerned, Russell isn't sure whether she'll share the users I.P. addresses just yet - subpoena or not.
"People won't feel safe. There are some people that need to be anonymous because of their job or their standing in the community," she said. "I believe that information is private and should stay private."
Russell meets with her attorney, Friday, to further discuss her options.
