I agree with all; there are those that are going to abuse not only this particular system; but every thing they can get their hands on. The more they can get from Uncle Sam ( read - us taxpayers ), the more they can spend on booze and crack. And nice cars, clothes, expensive hair-do's, and on and on.

I had a $500 electric bill for 2 months in the summer of last year because the main ducts collapsed in my attic over the winter and the landlord didn't send someone to fix it until september, so I had to virtually run my air conditioner to no avail all last summer when it reached 110 degs. I could have left fans on while I was at work but I don't like leaving those things plugged up when I'm not home so anyway, my bill was extreme so I just called Entergy and told them my situation and they extended my payments and I was able to pay it off over a 3 month time period. I agree with ya'll below, too many people are frauding the system and taking away from those who really need the help, like the elderly and disabled. Entergy will work with you if you pay them something..

I agree itsjustme. I am not saying that all of them do, and I am quite sure that there are many that really do need the help. But if you can afford to buy your dope, then you can afford to pay your electric bill.

Just like the free cell phone program, I am sure this was abused and money was given to people that could afford to pay their electric bill, but opted for a handout.
