A family in Cabot is expecting a very large turnout for Thanksgiving dinner. The Moore's have invited the entire community, and are throwing a Thanksgiving feast for the whole town of Cabot.
The Moore's don't have an industrial size kitchen, just a desire to serve up hundreds of meals to anyone who wants to join them. Heather and Dane Moore decided to host a community-wide Thanksgiving last year after noticing a void in Cabot. "Cabot needs this, so we set it up. We had about 350 people attend last year, so we're expecting a bigger number this year."
The Moore's are expecting at least one hundred more people to attend. That means more turkeys, more rolls, more pies, and more stuffing. Luckily, they aren't doing it all on their own. "We could not do this without our community volunteers. It's amazing how everything comes together and just works."
Volunteers are donating, cooking, and delivering all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes with trimmings, including desserts in their own homes, and bringing it all to the feast. "They don't even have to spend their own money. They can pick up donations, cook them at home, and bring them back, so it doesn't have to interrupt their own family dinner."
The Moore's say they have faith they'll be able to meet the need. "People will come and there will be enough food." In part, thanks to Danny Joslin at Grandpa's BBQ, who is volunteering to smoke 14 turkeys and 8 hams. "I look at having a business as a blessing, and if you're called upon, it's an opportunity to serve others and serve the Lord. This is my opportunity to use my gift and what I have as a way to bless others."
Joslin will smoke up to 250 turkeys and hams this Thanksgiving anyway, so a few extra isn't a burden. Joslin says showings thanks is what this holiday is all about.
The Cabot Community Thanksgiving Feast is from 11am to 2pm Thursday, November 24th at Grace Fellowship Church in Cabot. It's open to the public and is free for everyone. You can dine-in, or carry-out, or have a meal delivered right to your door.
